Peyton local William Munson placed in the top 10 in the Junior Dally Team Roping-Heading competition at the American Quarter Horse Association World Championship Show in Oklahoma City, according to an AQHA press release.
Team roping consists of two riders and a steer. The "header" must rope the steer's horns, head or one horn and the head. He then ties his rope around the horn of the saddle (a move called a "dally") which allows the rider to control the animal with his horse. The "heeler" then ropes the steer's hind legs. Time is called when the steer is stopped and his front and back legs are stretched apart.
The AQHA World Championship show will be broadcast on NBC on Jan. 12 at 5 p.m. EST/2 p.m. PST.
