Barrel race jackpot in Benbrook
benefits children at St. Jude’s

FORT WORTH, TEXAS—North Texas barrel racers willing to race for a cure to help children with cancer and other catastrophic illnesses will get the chance May 2 at a “Saddle Up for St. Jude” 5D Barrel Race at the Benbrook Stables, 10001 Benbrook Blvd., in Benbrook, Texas.

Any breed of horse may be entered in the event, which is hosted by Benbrook Stables, in conjunction with a weekend fundraiser for St. Jude’s being co-hosted by the American Paint Horse Association (APHA).

The barrel race jackpot will offer a 75 percent payout to all divisions, and each winner will take home a custom trophy buckle, courtesy of KO Trading. Remaining proceeds will benefit the children of St. Jude’s.

After the barrel race, participants and spectators can stay over for the next morning’s Saddle Up! for St. Jude Trail Ride. The 10-mile adventure will take riders along the trails surrounding beautiful Lake Benbrook. It will be a great way to enjoy the day with fellow horse enthusiasts while supporting an outstanding cause. Upon returning to the stables, APHA and Benbrook Stables will host a chuck wagon cookout, the local
Cowtown Opry musical group will entertain and a special benefit auction will be held.

On December 4th the doors of the Thomas and Mack Arena will open to the 50th Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Word around the rodeo circuit is that this is set to be one of the best events in the history of the PRCA. Several exciting events have happened within the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association since the last NFR. All good! There is a new man at the helm of the association, Karl Stressman. Karl is certainly not new to the sport of rodeo and to what it takes to put on a top-notch event. Karl is taking the helm at a time when the PRCA has been forced by circumstances to take a close look at their organization and the future of rodeo and the results have been a new positive look at the future.
