2008 FORD YOUTH WORLD SHOW BIGGEST ON RECORD The American Quarter Horse Journal, July 31, 2008 – Members of the American Quarter Horse Youth Association are heading to Oklahoma City for the largest Ford Youth World Show ever. The excitement begins August 1 and will continue through August 9 at State Fair Park. The 2008 Ford Youth World Show is bigger and better than ever before. Already the world’s largest single-breed show for youth, this year the show has increased by 38 percent with 2,748 entries. The Oklahoma City economy will get a $14.6 million boost during the show’s run. read more>>
Shawn Flarida Wins Tulsa FuturityShawn Flarida with another win at the Tulsa Futurity on Whizs Chic A Dee owned by Arcese Quarter Horses USA. Shawn marked a 229.5 and earned $11,952 for his ride. Tim Mcquay was second riding A Ruff Master with a score of 227 and earned $7,275. Andrea Fappani was third with a score of 224.5 riding Cromed Out Mercedes earning $5,066. More results

Changes made in a proposed drug-testing rule for horses on days they don't race have addressed some concerns expressed by horsemen, but leaders of owner and trainer groups say they still want the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission to wait before approving the policy.
It is horse versus helicopter here in the high desert. On one side are nearly 40,000 horses spread over 10 states, whose presence on the range is a last vestige of the Old West. On the other is a group of crusty cowboys whose chosen method of roundup involves rotors more than wrangling, using high-tech helicopters to drive galloping mustangs into low-tech traps.
The stated goal is to reduce the wild horse population to more sustainable levels but animal advocates say the roundups are cruel, expensive and unnecessary.
More than 18-hundred horses and 1300 riders are in Little Rock this weekend for the Arkansas State Horse Show. This weekend 16,000 will go through the gates of the State Fair Grounds, bringing big bucks to Little Rock's economy, but for the riders, it's all about competition.
